Dear BGW Students and Families! August 16, 2019
We hope that you are having a fantastic summer and are looking forward to coming to and/or returning to
B. Gale Wilson School on August 26, 2019! We are so excited that you are coming and can’t wait to meet our
new Wildcats!! We hope that you love your middle school or Dual Immersion experience, making new friends
and new connections!
Official class schedules will be available in your middle school student’s Aeries Portal, for you to view
or print at home, beginning August 21st, so long as you have filled out your student’s online emergency card.
Office staff is available from 9:00-3:00 every day (minus lunch from 12-1) to assist you in filling out your
emergency card, and can also print out your student’s schedule beginning the 21st. We will be posting elementary
schedules at 4 pm on August 23rd. No changes will be made to ANY student’s schedule in the first 10 days of school.
On Wednesday, August 21st, we will have our Welcome To Middle School 6th Grade Tours. 6th Grade
parents, if you have not signed up for your tour, please do so here. On our first day of school, August 26th, we will
also be hosting Kinder Orientation at 9am for AM kiddos and 11:50 for PM kiddos. Also, another change this year is
that we will be hosting both Back To School Nights on their regular night (September 10 for Elementary and
September 11 for Middle School), we do, however, have an orientation sort of day planned for our students on the
first day of school in order to ensure they are excited and well prepared for the new school year.
BGW is 1:1 for all grade levels. 6th Grade Chromebooks will be distributed during our orientation on
August 21st and all other chromebooks will be distributed with their contracts to be signed and returned the
first week of school. Students will be expected to bring their CHARGED device to and from school EVERY DAY!
We have sent out a few emails with similar information, so please make sure that you are checking any email
that comes from bgws@fsusd.org. If you aren’t getting these, please email Ms. Dinwiddie or Mr. Nelson directly! We
are very visible on our campus and cannot wait to get to know you! Follow us on all of our social media and Youtube
channel to read/watch about any announcements that may be happening!
Finally, Families may find electronic copies of the 2019-2020 Parent Student Handbook on the Family
Resource section of the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District's website. The Handbook is available in English
and Spanish
We look forward to meeting you on August 26th and hope you have a great summer!
Ms. Dinwiddie and Mr. Nelson
ATTENDANCE GOALS AND INFORMATION 2019-2020:
Our goal at BGW is to ensure that every student attends school regularly! We realize that some absences are
unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances. The only excused absences are illness ( doctor note
needed after 3 days) or death in the family. However, we also know that when students miss too much school, it can
cause them to fall behind academically. We must work together to improve our attendance rates as last year, our
attendance dropped to 95.95% for middle school and 95.48% for Dual Immersion. When our students aren’t in
school, they are not learning. We will not be approving Independent Study applications for students who do not
meet our grade or attendance requirements this year.
We want your Wildcat to have a successful school year. Please ensure that he/she gets to school every day and
arrives on time. Help them stay on top of their assignments through Parent Portal and emailing their teachers
directly. Here are a few tips to support regular attendance:
Make sure your Wildcat has a regular bedtime and establish a morning routine
Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before
Ensure your Wildcat goes to school daily unless they are truly sick
Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session please!
Let us know how best we can support you and your Wildcat so that they can be successful at BGW!
MORE FACTS TO KNOW:
- All BGW middle school students are REQUIRED to bring their IDs while on campus, including any after
school event, games and/dances. Students will need ID’s during the day to receive ROAR points for
positive choices that can be saved to earn rewards at our monthly advisory auctions. ID’s will be
issued after picture day and we will eventually have BGW lanyards available for purchase.
-If any student is absent without notification to our attendance office during the first week of school for more than
3 days, they WILL be dropped from BGW. Please notify us if your student will be absent at 707-421-4225.
-All BGW students attending dances must be in good academic standing (at least 2.0 during most recent grading
period), with an acceptable attendance and behavior record. Students with excessive absences or tardies
or multiple behavior concerns will not be allowed to participate.
-Parents may find electronic copies of the 2019-2020 Parent Student Handbook on the Parent section of the
Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District's website. The Parent Student Handbook is available online in English and
Spanish.
SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL (SSC):
The School Site Council is a group of parents, teachers, classified staff, and students who work with the Admin
Team to develop, review, and evaluate school improvement, programs, and school budgets. Please look for the flyer
to join during the first two weeks of school.
